Lightner Museum Curator Tour

May 2, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

On the first Wednesday of the month (September – May), join Lightner Museum Curator Barry Myers for a themed, interactive tour designed to give participants an opportunity to see acquisitions in operation rather than just as static displays. The tour offers guests an intimate encounter with a select few of the Lightner’s eclectic relics.

Shopping was alive and robust during the Victorian era. The Lightner Museum, which was formerly the Alcazar Hotel built by Henry Flagler in 1888, was surrounded by interesting shops. Jewelry, high end souvenirs, and dress shops lined the first floor courtyard space of the Alcazar. May’s Curator’s Tour topic, “Retail Therapy in the 19th Century”, will delve into the shopping trends of the day right here in St. Augustine as well as the rise of department stores and big retail establishments in America.

The tour, which is included in admission, will begin in the front lobby of the Museum at 10am.
