The First Friday Art Walk Recital at the Cathedral Basilica will feature organ recitalist Andrew Clarke. He’ll be playing the works of Henry Purcell, Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Richard Rodgers and a few of his own compositions. He will conclude the recital with an improvisation submitted by Dr. Sans, the director of music at the Cathedral Basilica.
Mr. Clarke has concertized extensively throughout the United States and Canada, including recitals at Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony) and at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. He has also presented master classes on improvisation for many chapters of the American Guild of Organists, as well as at leading American universities. He’s made two recordings of Christmas improvisations on both organ and piano and has improvised live on public radio.
The recital begins at 6:00PM, is open to the public and Free of charge. A free-will offering will be accepted to thank Mr. Clarke for his efforts in preparing this great summer-fare of music written for the organ.
