Friday evening, April 6, come enjoy the Concert at the Cathedral Basilica when they host the University of North Florida School of Music’s presentation of “Seeking Refuge”. The University of North Florida’s Choral Department has created an ensemble comprised of refugees from various countries, including Burma, Congo and Eritrea, who have resettled in the Jacksonville area and will perform alongside the UNF Chorale as well as The Osprey TREBLE.
“The goal of the benefit concert is to create awareness about the large population of refugees that are in the Jacksonville area and to spread awareness about their needs as well as to raise funds to support the efforts of the infrastructures in place to help them,” said Dr. Cara Tasher, director of Choral Studies at UNF.
The concert is free, however, donations are encouraged. Proceeds will benefit the three main organizations in the Jacksonville area that assist refugees: Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services and World Relief.
