English pop/rock group Mike + The Mechanics will be making their first area appearance in 30 years live in concert at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Mike Rutherford (founding member, guitarist, bass player, and songwriter with Genesis, the British rock group who sustained massive international success over the last four decades) pursued other projects in the mid ’80s and formed the pop/rock band Mike + The Mechanics with Paul Young of Sad Café and Paul Carrack of Ace. Their self-titled debut, released in 1985, produced two Top Ten hit singles “Silent Running (on Dangerous Ground)” and “All I Need Is A Miracle”, which both peaked on the charts in early 1986. Later that year, Rutherford returned to Genesis and Carrack revived his solo career.
In 1988, Mike + The Mechanics released “The Living Years” which was a greater success than their debut, spawning the number one hit single “The Living Years”. After a short hiatus, the band returned with “Word of Mouth” in 1991, “Beggar on a Beach of Gold” in 1995, and “M6” in 1999. In 2009, Rutherford began work on a new Mechanics record with new vocalists Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar on board. In 2011, “The Road” was released and followed up by a 22-show U.K. tour. The group celebrated the 25th anniversary of the release of “The Living Years in 2014 while also embarking on a North American tour. Rutherford returned to the studio in 2016 to record the band’s eighth album, “Let Me Fly”. Joined once again by Roachford and Howar on vocals, the rest of the band was rounded out by guitarist Anthony Drennan, keyboardist Luke Juby, and drummer Gary Wallis. “Let My Fly” was officially released in March 2017.
